Haiti - Social : Sugarcane cutters angry against Haiti

On Monday, several hundred of Cañeros (sugarcane cutters) exasperated, angry or desperate, demonstrated once again in front of the Embassy of Haiti in Santo Domingo, to complain about the lack of delivery of critical documents they need to register in the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) whose registration deadline is June 17, 2015 at 4:00 pm

The trade unionist Jesus Nunez Cañeros Spokesperson and Coordinator of the Union of sugarcane workers in the bateyes, lamented that the Embassy of Haiti has still not delivered the documents requested many times by thousands of workers, who work in the sugar cane fields "It only remains 17 days ! With what documents we will present ourselves to the Ministry of Interior and the police, to register in the Regularisation Plan ?" complained Nunez.

The union leader said that the Embassy had already given more than 10 dates to deliver the necessary documents (birth certificate, identity card and passport) but none have been respected. Recalling that on about 50,000 registered cañeros, 10,000 have applied for identity documents, but so far only 300 cane workers were able to register in the Dominican Regularisation Plan.

Jésus Nuñez, at the head of a delegation, was finally received Monday by Fritz Dougé, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Haiti, who promised that next Wednesday, the Ambassador of Haiti, Daniel Supplice will speak to them...
