Haiti - Reconstruction : The new Court of Cassation completed soon

Wednesday, Yves Germain Joseph, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation accompanied by in particular Rothchild François Jr., the Minister of Communication and Pierre André Richard, Supervisor of construction sites at the Construction Unit of Housing and Public Buildings (UCLBP), paid a visit of construction sites (started in July 2013) of the building that must house the Court of Cassation.

The work of the new premises of the Court of Cassation, imposing, modern and able to withstand a possible earthquake of magnitude 9 on the Richter scale, are at an advanced stage and should be completed before 15 August 2015.

Funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the tune of $ 16.3 million, this work is carried out by the Taiwanese firm OECC (Oversease Company Engineering Construction), under the supervision of Taiwanese engineers and UCLBP but by Haitian technicians.

The new building of the Court of Cassation will cover an area of 4,262 m2 distributed over three floors. The first level will house a parking space with a capacity of 24 vehicles. The second level will include, among others, the offices of judges, of the Government Substitutes. The office of President of the Court will be housed on the third level of the building. Moreover the Court of Cassation will also have two courtrooms of about 195 m2 each and a conference room of 63 m2.
