Haiti - Politic : President Martelly at 2nd EU-CELAC Summit in Brussels 11/06/2015 09:51:25
Wednesday in Brussels (Belgium), the President Michel Martelly, accompanied, among others by Cener Renauld, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Wilson Laleau, Minister of Economy and Finance, participated in the launch of the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC-EU), which brings together for 2 days (10-11 June) 33 Member States of Latin America and the Caribbean and 28 Member States of the European Union on the theme "Shaping our common future: working for a prosperous cohesive and sustainable societies for our citizens". Co-chaired by Donald Tusk, President of the European Council and Rafael Correa, President of Ecuador, this 2nd Summit should, among others, stimulate trade and investment between participating countries to create jobs and growth and also promote sustainable development, capable of providing a reasonable standard of living for their citizens and the fight against poverty and inequality in the world. On the sidelines of this important Summit, the Head of State had the day before, a fruitful working meeting with representatives of several member countries of CARICOM, at the local of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. This meeting, exploratory at the summit was an opportunity for the Heads of State and Government to address certain issues relating to the Caribbean region. The President Martelly, also met with President of the European Council, Donald Tusk at the local of Council of the European Union in Brussels. After the two working sessions of the first day, which took place respectively on the themes "Injecting fresh impetus to the bi-regional partnership" and "Facing global challenges together," the President Martelly, met with Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel. This bilateral meeting gave the opportunity to the Haitian Head of State to reiterate the efforts of its administration to raise the economic bar of the country through investment. He also met with the Commissioner Mr. Neven Mimica, at the headquarters of the European Commission in the Berlaymont building. See also : HL/ HaitiLibre
