Haiti - Economy : Border development project
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through its Local Development Project Border (LTDP), funded by the European Union has supported and promoted the realization of the first meeting between the Chambers of Commerce of Northeast of Haiti and that of Dajabon (Dominican Republic).

The objective was to discuss the need to align and strengthen the binational trade relations including :

  • The strengthening of relations between the two Chambers of Commerce ;
  • The consequences on trade between the two countries of the upcoming repatriation of Haitians, who have not been able to regularize their migratory situation in neighboring Republic ;
  • La Regularization of traders at the border (identification badge) ;
  • The difficulties of border trade and possible joint solutions.

Following these discussions, the two Chambers of Commerce have agreed on the following resolutions :

  • The production of a paper on the situation of the transport sector between the two countries ;
  • The production of an inventory of the border investment opportunities ;
  • The presentation of the progress on the regularization of traders at the border level.

The next meeting is scheduled for the 4th of July in Cap Haitien in the office of the Chamber of Commerce of North.
