Haiti - Security : BOID, a new specialized police brigade

Wednesday at the National Police Academy (Frères) the National Police of Haiti (PNH), in the presence of Pierre-Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice, André Jonas Parison, West Departmental Director, officials of the PNG and representatives of the Minustah, proceeded to the graduation of the first promotion of the new Brigade of Operation and of Departmental Intervention (BOID).

This new brigade of the brigade, composed of 254 police officers, including 18 women (out of 275 initial candidates) have received special training during 2 months, (by the Minustah and UNPOL) will be deployed in the various departments. This new intervention unit includes both some of the functions of the SWAT and UDMO, said Jonas Parison, who stressed that the establishment of this new unit, takes part of the willingness to allow specialized forces to be more rapidly mobilized to deal with emergencies.

The BOID will be responsible inter alia : of the fight against crime in difficult environments; strengthen to their request departmental units and police stations; coordinate with departmental units prevention and the fight against serious crime and support investigative units of the departments to which it will be affected. It will be affected to various police stations in the West department and the various departmental directors of the PNH will proceed shortly to the establishment of a team of the BOID in their respective regions explained Parison who stressed that the creation of this unit arrives at a time when all the departmental directorates want to strengthen their capacity for action in order to better meet the demands of the moment in terms of security.

While stressing the need to strengthen the HNP the Minister Casimir, reiterated its determination to make every effort to improve police working conditions and to provide the means necessary for the full accomplishment of their mission to protect lives and property, adding that it was not of a unit excessive but the BIOD, will have to play a role as part of the repatriation of our compatriots in the Dominican Republic.
