Haiti - Economy : Inflation up...

In May amounted to 230.2 against 228.3 in April 2015, the Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) showed a monthly growth rate of 0.8% and 6.6% yoy, respectively, against 0.5% and 6.3% the previous month.

The indices that have contributed most to the monthly increase include: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 0.9%), "Clothing and fabrics, footwear" (+ 1.7%), "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" (+ 0.9%), Health (+ 1.2%) and "Other Goods and Services" (2.0%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget comes particularly from meat prices (+ 1.4% on average), fresh fish (+ 1.8%), the edible oil (+ 1.5%), avocado (+ 0.6%), bananas (+ 1.3%), the pumpkin (+ 1.9%), the green bean (+ 0.7%), dry beans (+ 2.8%), eggplant (+ 1.6%), cabbage (+ 1.4%), onion (+ 0.9%), carrot (+ 1.7%), tomato (+ 2.6%) , yam (+ 3.3%), the malanga (+ 2.4%), of potatoes (+ 2.5%) and potatoes (+ 2.8%), orange (+ 1.9%) and the chadèque (+ 2.0%), lemon (+ 0.9%) and powdered coffee (+ 1.0%).

The increase observed in the index of "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" is mainly due to the increase in products such as tissues (+ 2.2%), the costume, universal jacket (+ 1.8%), shirts (+ 1.6%) of the dress (+ 3.1%), and tennis shoes (+ 2.5%) and shoes (+ 2.0%).

The upward trend of the index "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" is mainly due to the increase in products such as: living room furniture (+ 2.4%), the dining room (+ 2.9%), the bed (+ 3.0%), the mattress (+ 4.4%), bed linen (+ 1.4%), curtains (+ 3.8%), the tablecloth (+ 1.1%) and refrigerators (+ 3.6%).

At the origin of higher cost of the "Health", the increases in the fees paid to doctors (+ 2.3%) and hospital costs (+ 0.9%).

As for the increase in the index Index "Other Goods and Services" it is consecutive to the upward mainly of price of : shampoo (+ 6.9%), perfume, toilet water (+ 5.1%), other hair care products (+ 3.2%), beauty treatments (+ 1.1%) and watchs (+ 1.1%).

Metropolitan Area: +1.0% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.7% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.7% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.6% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)
