Haiti - Politic : U.S Senators Dick Durbin and Bill Nelson visited Port-au-Prince

On Friday, U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Bill Nelson arrived in Port-au-Prince and met with President Michel Martelly and other top officials at the National Palace (Prime Minister Evans Paul and members of the Haitian Cabinet) to discuss this year's Haitian elections, migration issues with the Dominican Republic, and support for Haiti's development.

On Saturday, Senators Durbin and Nelson visited a garment factory which has benefitted from U.S. HOPE/HELP legislation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14175-haiti-economy-good-news-the-extension-help-hope-definitively-passed-in-the-usa.html to better understand the impact of American legislation on the economic progress in Haiti.

Following a brief ceremony, the Senators held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Haitian National Police Academy. Proud of the US support for the National Police of Haiti (PNH), in regard to necessary infrastructure, the increase in staff and its professional capacity, the Senators congratulated Godson Orelus, the Director General of the PNH, on the 20th anniversary of the institution’s founding, and the progress it has realized since then.
