Haiti - Politic : Failure of PIDIH, a fiasco of $2 million 06/07/2015 10:57:01 "We are responsible for what is happening today with our compatriots," said Supplice, adding that the implementation of this plan was not a "very good idea". "If we do not manage to identify our citizens at home, I do not see how we could have done elsewhere [...] I have already ordered the closure of the program, which cost two million dollars so far." https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-14080-icihaiti-social-tens-of-thousands-of-haitians-in-dr-abandoned-by-haiti.html Due to the pressure of immigrants and failures in implementation, the Haitian government took the management of the plan to the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) and forwarded it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has reduced the cost of providing documents from 2.500 to 1.000 pesos and in April 2015, has opened two offices in Santiago (center) and Barahona (South) to strengthen the work of Santo Domingo. Although Haiti had set a target to identify at least 200,000 countrymen, only 52,000 Haitians living in the Dominican Republic are listed today on the registration list of PIDIH, of them only 2,000 have received their passport, 15,000 a national identification card and 20,000 a birth certificate. Recall that at the request of Ambassador Supplice, the Dominican Presidency has agreed in principle to register Haitian nationals on presentation of a document issued by the Embassy of Haiti. As part of this emergency identification program, from 8th to 16th June, more than 7,000 compatriots who had made applications for identification documents, never delivered by Haiti, obtained from the Embassy an identification receipt allowing them to enroll in the National Plan of Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE), hich ended Wednesday, June 17 at midnight. However, as reminded Washington González Deputy Minister of the Interior and Police, "the Dominican government has committed to accept the paper, but he recalled that this receipt was not enough and that the Haitian authorities must hand to heir nationals already registered at the National Plan of Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE), identifications documents required by the PNRE no later than 45 days following the closing of PNRE (17 June 2015). Let's hope that this administrative reprieve of the Embassy conclude positively for all Haitians concerned.
