Haiti - Dominican Republic : End of the OAS mission in DR, beginning in Haiti
The delegation of the Organization of American States (OAS) on a mission in the Dominican Republic since Friday to gather information on the situation of Haitian migrants in the field, ended Sunday to continue in Haiti...

On Friday, the OAS delegation met with the Foreign Minister, Andrés Navarro, the authorities of the Ministry of Interior and Immigration, as well as representatives of civil society and international organizations present in the country.

Saturday, the mission met with representatives of organizations that defend the human rights of undocumented immigrants and their children born in the Dominican Republic, which had brought a complaint on allegations of denaturalization of Dominicans of Haitian origin.

The delegation also discussed the implementation of the National Plan of Foreign Regularization (PNRE), and observed the implementation of the Special Law No. 169-14, for those born in the Dominican Republic from alien parents, who lacked documentation. After that meeting, the OAS delegation met with the Ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic, Daniel Supplice and subsequently of business and industry leaders, who employ large numbers of Haitians in the sectors of construction and agriculture.

Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of the OAS, indicated that "the assessment of the situation was positive," and dialogue with the relevant authorities "very civilized".

The OAS visit to the Dominican Republic ended Sunday with a visit to the border facilities of Jimani intended to welcome Haitian migrants in an irregular situation before rappatriement in Haiti. Later, around 1:30 pm the members of the delegation have traveled overland to Port-au-Prince to meet in private with representatives of civil society. On Monday, are expected to take the first contacts with government agencies.
