Haiti - Sports : The Olympic multi-sports complex, one year already !
The Centre benefits of the generous support of the Olympic Movement, the International Sports Federations and the government of Haiti, which has provided the land, sports equipment, infrastructure and brought their expertise. It includes training facilities for more than ten Olympic sports, without forgetting classrooms, a medical center and a fitness room, changing rooms, offices and housing.
Welcoming every week up to 100 young Haitians, the center offers them a unique opportunity to explore and practice different sports under the guidance of a qualified trainer.
Let us recall among others that as part of the first ever global day of table tennis (last April 6) 400 children have learned to play table tennis under the supervision of 27 coaches recently trained at a seminar organized by Haitian federation.
In January 2015, the Centre had already hosted the first training course for trainers organized by the Haitian Hockey Federation with the support of the Pan American Federation and International Hockey Federation (FIH). This course was addressed to National Sport Federations. On four days, 42 Haitian coaches have discovered a new sport with its rules and techniques, and learned how to create a program and a hockey team.
A few months earlier, in September 2014, nearly 20 coaches had participated in a Rugby training camp organized by the center with the support of World Rugby and Rugby Association of North America and the Caribbean (NACRA ). This course was designed to bring together potential rugby coaches from various Haitian communities. Eager to play and train, participants established a committee whose mission is to organize the sport, plan and create the first tournament and a rugby federation. Having at heart the future of the sport in Haiti. The Centre plans to use the "Get info Ruby" program of the "World Rugby" to mobilize more than 400 children over the coming months.
A year after its opening, the "Sport for Hope Centre, Haiti" proves more than ever that sport can offer a brighter future for everyone.
