Haiti - Education : Reading Camps for young people during the holidays
In order to prevent the loss of reading skills is one of the objectives of the Ministry of National Education which proposes to organize during the summer holidays reading camps.

Led by the Directorate of Basic Education, this activity must allow students from 1st to 4th year of fundamental and over to keep in touch with the book. Friday several actors involved in the project, have met under the coordination of Wilnor Pierre, Director of Basic Education.

The initiative must touch particularly the regions of Port-au-Prince, St. Marc, Gressier and other places of the country. The goal will be, among others, with the help of animators, to motivate students to learn to read and inspire the interest and enjoyment of reading; to build a momentum around reading in order to enhance the learning in communities and maintain reading skills over the summer.

In three sessions of two hours of reading maximum per week, students participate in the after-school learning activity during the holidays, in a playful context.

Claudin Saint-Jour, Head of Service at the Basic Education Department said that this activity coupled with recreational activities has already begun in several centers accustomed to this practice. The children are supervised by teachers and volunteer students, who act as animator.
