Haiti - Culture : Wyclef Jean has thrilled Montreal

Monday at 9 p.m., Wyclef Jean animated with music and songs, the opening evening of the 9th edition of the Festival Haiti en Folie on Videotron scene, (Place des Festival in Montreal) in front of a large crowd where floated countless flags of Haiti, the Haitian community having responded in great numbers to the call of their Embassy.

When Jean arrived on scene, the cheering crowd gave him a grand welcome in a chorus of shrill cry of applause and ovations. From the first notes of "Ready or Not" the public made one, jumping in the air and keeping pace with the arms while chanting the name of Wyclef.

Throughout the evening, the atmosphere has continued to grow progressively as Wyclef Jean played teh Hits of his career both in solo as among Fugees. From "No Woman," "No Cry" to "Killing Me Softly" through "Gone Till November", fans of Wyclef Jean, sang in chorus with their idol, vibrating the Place des Festivals.

At the program of the Festival from 20 to 25 July: carnival, rara parade in the street, crafts, music, literature, dance and gastronomy. All offered free of charge to raise awareness of the Haitian culture. Only an open heart discussion, hosted by the Quebec Haitian writer Dany Laferrière around his book "Dany Laferrière à l’Académie Française, Discours de réception et réponse d’Amin Maalouf", next July 23 will cost you a few dollars ($ 25).

On July 25 there will held a parade where the Haitian Rara folk music and traditional costumes will be honored "This is the only parade that people can not just watch and enters the parade," said the founder of Festival, Fabienne Colas "We want this parade to become the largest parade Rara outside of Haiti." Note that Dany Laferrière will participate in the parade.

The 24 and 25 July at Gamelin Gardens, Evolution Group will take charge of animating the "Midis Twoubadou" (from noon to 2 p.m.), a big novelty this year.
