Haiti - Politic : 15 illegal Haitian prevented from returning in DR

The Dominican authorities have arrested and repatriated 15 illegal Haitian (12 men and 3 women), in the border area, while attempting to re-enter Dominican territory in the vicinity od border posts of Cañango and Copey, between the provinces of Dajabón and Montecristi.

Those 15 Haitians who resided in the Dominican Republic according to their statements, had returned to Haiti to visit their relatives. During their arrests, they held forged Dominican identity document. The 15 Haitian nationals, were detained at the Dominican Ouanaminthe reception center before being handed over to Haitian authorities.

Furthermore, concerning the beginning of official repatriations of Haitians in an irregular migratory situation in the Dominican Republic, not registered in the National Plan of Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) which began modestly since Friday, the Consul of Dajabon, Noël Lukmen said he did not observe any irregularities or violations of the rights of returnees. He confirmed that those who were repatriated to Haiti Saturday, were all born in Haiti and that they lived indeed illegally in the Dominican Republic.
