Clarens Renois elected single candidate of the Protestant sector

Wednesday, after the second round of discussions, to choose a single candidate from among the parties of Protestant trend, discussions had not ended Protestant trend, discussions had not, among the 3 andidates selected : Chavannes Jeune, Clarens Renois and Jean Paleme Mathurin. However, a resolution was signed in which the contenders for the presidency engage the High Level Mediation Commission to find a consensus formula to decide definitively. This document states that "the candidate designated as representative of the sector in the presidential elections will be supported by the Protestant community, while the other two will be able to ontinue the electoral race if they wish."

Thursday the High level Mediation Commission proceeded by vote, in order to nominate the single candidate for the Protestant sector in the election of 25 October.

Finally it is the journalist Clarens Renois under the banner UNIR, which was designated as the single presidential candidate for a wide sector of the Protestant community. He got 4 votes, Jean Chavannes Jeune, 3 votes and Jean Paleme Mathurin, 2 votes on 9.

The street demands the resignation of Opont and of power in place

Yesterday Thursday in Port-au-Prince, hundreds of people took the concrete to the call of the National Front for the Reconstruction of Democracy. Hostile to the CEP protesters demanded the arrest of the President of the electoral council, Pierre Louis Opont and the departure of power in place. The demonstration is expected to continue for a 2nd day, this Friday.

The CEP denies rumors...

Marie Carmelle Paule Austin, Election Adviser, responding to political parties who demand the resignation of the CEP and report divisions between different members of the CEP on how they react on the election day on August 9 said "We are a block, but it is to Mr. Opont whether he wants to resign or not," denying any form of division within the Electoral Council.

End of verification of ballots of presidential vote

According to Philippe Augustin, the Director of the Electoral Register, at least 25 presidential candidates went Thursday to the headquarters of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to check the models of ballot papers at the request of the electoral institution, have been seen among others : Steven Benoit, Matias Pierre, Sauveur Pierre Etienne and Jovenel Moïse...
