Haiti - FLASH : Assassination attempt on a police officer

Friday, September 4 in the evening, wo heavily armed gangs, headed respectively by Jean Michel and Gibson Cérame aka "Ti Sam" fired repeatedly on the vehicle of police officer Oreste Gilnor at the level of Maro, at the southern entrance of Petit-Goâve, reported the police Commissioner of Petit-Goâve, Serge Barreau.

The police officer was hit by 3 bullets of large caliber, that pierced his vehicle, injuring his back, arm and right leg. The officer Gilnor was rushed to a hospital center.

Furthermore, in order to curb the rising insecurity in Petit-Goâve https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15059-haiti-flash-gangs-back-in-service-on-national-road-2.html , the Commissioner Barreau announced the new measures that have been adopted :

  • Increased police presence in the vicinity of schools ;

  • Seizure of motorcycles devoid of identification number ;

  • Intensification of police patrols in areas of tension : Andrédicette, Béatrice, cimetière de Petit-Goâve, Maro, Curtis, Chabanne ;

  • Development of proximity relations between the population and community police.
