Haiti - Social : Demonstration against a Cholera treatment center

This October 26th at 11:30am in Saint Marc (Artibonite Department), a hostile demonstration took place against a new cholera treatment center (CTC) that MINUSTAH has just built in the locality to respond to a request of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Nearly 300 students, purportedly incited by the Union of Teachers have protested by throwing stones and Molotov cocktails to show their dissatisfaction with the construction and establishment of the CTC at this location.

A tent was partially damaged but no injuries were reported among patients within the tents. Some members of staff ARGBATT (member of the Argentine battalion) were slightly injured. The director of the CTC is talking with students and the present situation is relatively stable.

It was decided to move the CTC in a new location to be determined. MINUSTAH soldiers began dismantling. The ARGBATT is on site with several UDMOs and UNPOL.
