Haiti - Politic : First day of Evans Paul to Washington D.C.

Thursday, during his first day of official visit to Washington, Prime Minister Evans Paul had a well-filled agenda. He met : the honourables Luis Leonardo Almagro Lemes and Ambassador Nestor Mendes, respectively Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), at the organization's headquarters https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-15182-icihaiti-elections-evans-paul-met-with-secretary-general-of-the-oas.html ; the honorable senators Bill Nelson and Richard Durban (Capitol Hill); the Honourable Secretary of State John Kerry, at the State Department https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15183-haiti-politic-meeting-between-evans-paul-and-john-kerry.html ; the honourable congressman and congresswomen of the Black Caucus, Charles Rangels, Gregory Meeks, Yvette Clark and Barbara Lee (at Capitol Hill) ; of members of the Haitian community at the Calvary Baptist Church (in Adelphi, Maryland); of foreign friends of the Caribbeans and Haitian professionals at Dr. Joseph Baptiste in Fulton (Maryland).

These conversations were held mainly around the electoral process and issues related to migration conflict between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Prime Minister Paul expressed the firm determination of the government to promote conditions conducive to the continuation of the electoral process, including the holding of the second round of legislative and presidential first round, set on 25 October.

There is no alternative to elections he said "The only option is the continuation of the electoral process, inclusive and credible, to guarantee the installation of senators, deputies and an elected President in early 2016, for the full functioning of democratic institutions and the alternation necessary for political stability, essential to economic and social progress of the country."
