Haiti - Culture : 5 musicians honored at the National Palace

Thursday at the National Palace during a ceremony, the President Michel Martelly, in the presence of Prime Minister Evans Paul, elevated to the rank of National Order of Honor and Merit, Grade of Knight, five personalities that have marked, through their works, the Haitian musical and artistic world : André Dejean, Albert Chancy, Henrio (Boulo) Valcourt, Richard Duroseau and David Metellus aka "Ti Coka".

"With this gesture, I propose to the youth models on which it can profitably refer. I'm sure that younger generations will be inspired by the lives of these men in order to bring a valuable stone in the reconstruction of Haiti," declared the Head of State before making a presentation of each of these artists.

Albert Chancy :

Albert Chancy, journaliste, propriétaire de média, homme d'affaires, est guitariste, chanteur de charme, compositeur, pianiste émérite, co-fondateur et premier maestro de Tabou Combo de Pétion-Ville. Auteur-compositeur de plusieurs œuvres dont l'un des plus populaires, « Bon Anniversaire ». Auteur, Albert Chancy a aussi marqué l'avènement des mini-jazz en Haïti.

Boulot Valcourt :

Boulot Valcourt, music lover, composer, singer, guitarist, keyboardiste, he made his debut at the age of 16 with Pépé Bayard, and achieved great success. Warm smile, melodious voice, Boulot Valcourt also illustrated across the groups "Caraïbes" of Emile Volel, "Ibo Combo", "Caribbean Sextet", "Pikliz", "Caribbean Djann" and also with albums "Haitiando".

David Métellus :

David Métellus aka "Ti Coca", created in 1971, with his friends, a group called "Étoile de la Jeunesse", whose repertoire drew from the Troubadour. In 1976 he founded a musical group to animate restaurants in Petion-ville and it was not until 1981 that he formed with other musicians, "Wanga-Nègès" using traditional instruments such as the banjo, drum, acoustic guitar, maracas and manoumba. With "Wanga-Nègès, he made international tours in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, the US, Poland, Surinam, Austria and others.

André Dejean :

André Dejean, is one of the brothers Dejean of the famous musical formation "Les Frères Dejean". Trumpeter, songwriter, André Dejean debuted to the fanfare of the High School of Petion-ville and contributed to the spread and growth of Haitian music on international markets.

Richard Duroseau :

Richard Duroseau, virtuoso of the accordion, former accordionist of the Ensemble Nemours Jean-Baptiste, former keyboardist and pianist of "Skah-Shah #1", devoted his life to the influence of musical expression of the terroir. His performance are well known through the performance of his band called "Compas Jupiter" that makes dance and dream many fans of compass, both Haitian and foreign..
