Haiti - Epidemic : Japan - Haiti against the cholera

In its desire to contribute to the fight against cholera, Japanese government, through its Embassy in Haiti, decided to make available to the Department of Public Health and Population (MSPP), the sum of $183,000.

Most of this amount, $122,000 will be provided in equipment for the treatment and preservation of drinking water including: 40 water tanks, 30 water purifiers, 1800 portable Jerrycans, 40 plastic sheets...

The plane carrying the relief, landed yesterday, Thursday, October 28, 2010, around 6:10pm. Mr. Kentaro Minami, the new Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Haiti, carried out the immediate handing-over of these materials, with the representative in customs of the MSPP, Mr. Pierre Fanfan in the building sheltering the deposit of the Airport.

The use of the remaining $ 61,000 is currently being discussed with officials of the ministry concerned to direct them to other priority sectors. Japan wishes to present its most sincere condolences to the victims of this epidemic, and would like to renew its solidarity to the Haitian people in these difficult times.
