Haiti - Insecurity : Dangerous criminal arrested in Dominican Republic

Dominican police arrested yesterday, Julien Elie, a Haitian dangerous criminal who had escaped at the time of the seism of January in Haiti. Julien Elie was captured during a police operation in coordination with the Dominican Criminal Intelligence Directorate, the FBI (based at the U.S. Embassy) and the Haitian police.

Julien Elie, was hiding in a residence at the kilometer 10 of the Las Americas highway, east of Santo Domingo at the time of his capture. The Dominican police have declared that this dangerous criminal would be repatriated to Haiti as soon as possible, so he is serving a prison sentence for which he was convicted for various crimes, including murder.

This arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of police cooperation between the two countries and launched a strong signal to many escaped criminals they are no longer safe, wherever they are located on the island. The Dominican Republic had no intention of becoming a haven for bandits.
