Haiti - Health : Remarkable progress in maternal and child health

The Project for integrated management of maternal and child health in Artibonite (PRISMA/Canada) was closed during a workshop last week in the presence of Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, the Minister of Public Health and Ambassador of Canada in Haiti, Paula Caldwell St-Onge.

This workshop brought together all the partners in this project, working to improve the health of mothers and children since 2011 in 8 communes of Upper Artibonite (Anse Rouge, Ennery, Terre Neuve, Gros Morne, Marmelade, St-Michel, Estère and Gonaïves).

The Minister Guillaume stressed "I wish that all partners wishing to intervene in health in Haiti, like PRISMA/Canada articulate their actions on the vision and the National Health Policy for the purpose of more cost-effectiveness, better integration and above all a better impact on the health of mothers and children."

Recall that the project PRISMA/Canada has among other things through his actions :

  • Supported 7 maternity services ;

  • Trained and supported 138 Multipurpose Community Health Agents (ASCP) ;

  • Reinforced 3 offices of Arrondissement Health Units;

  • Built the Health Centre of Terre Neuve and Community Center of Health Plaine l’Arbre ;

  • Build 2 waiting homes for pregnant women who give birth ;

  • Reinforced to 78% the support the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) in health institutions ;

  • Facilitate the organization of 75,157 home visits and 7,416 rally posts ;

  • Reactivated the Departmental ccenter of Supply of Inputs (CDAI) of Gonaïves ;

  • Support the implementation of the ambulance system of Artibonite (7 ambulances are funded by Canada).
