Haiti - Culture : Disappearance of Haitian music icon

The Ministry of Culture has learned with dismay the sad news of the passing away, of the famous singer of the Haitian band "Issa El Saieh" Joseph François André aka "Joe Trouillot", at the age of 93, which occurred October 29, 2015 at 2pm surrounded by his family, in Montreal.

The Ministry bows to the remains of this emblematic figure of Haitian music.

Author, composer and singer, Joe Trouillot made the heyday of Haitian music of 40' 50'. he Quebec newspaper Le Devoir considers him as the patriarch of Haitian song. "It was the gentleman crooner, the mentor, the man with the look great, contagious good nature, but also a Haitian icon, a model of adaptation to Quebec society, Tino Rossi for his golden voice, Louvain the Caribbean casualness, Aznavour in the big band, the Compay Segundo of the Cabane Choucoune of Port-au-Prince."

The Ministry of Culture presents its sincere condolences to his family and friends and in general to the Haitian cultural and artistic world and all those who are afflicted by this unfortunate disappearance

The body of the deceased will be exposed Friday, November 6, 2015, from 3pm to 9pm and Saturday, November 7, from 9am to 10:30am, at Aeterna Funeral Complex, located at 55 Gince Street in Montreal. Phone : 514 228-1888.

The religious ceremony will take place Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church located at 1620 blvd. Laird, Ville Mont-Royal.
