Haiti - Humanitarian : The Haitian government asks help from Europe
The government of Haiti requested this Friday, the assistance of the European Union (UE) to face the Tomas hurricane, which started to cause floods in the country.

As reported by the European Commission (EC), Haiti asked Brussels, tents, tarpaulins, mosquito nets and water purification equipment.

The EU executive forwarded this request to the 31 countries participating in European civil protection mechanism, which is responsible for collecting materials and the coordination of its shipment.

The EU expressed its readiness to facilitate the deployment of any type of assistance that is available from Member States, following a rapid needs assessment to help the Haitian people to face this new trial.

In parallel, the Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid of the Commission, could respond with financial assistance through organizations that work in the field.
