Haiti - FLASH : Unknown opened fire on the station Radio Kiskeya 02/12/2015 09:30:10
On the night of Monday, November 30 to Tuesday, 1 December 2015 around 1:00 am, unidentified individualsopened fire with automatic weapons on the premises of our colleagues from Radio TV Kiskeya in Port-au-Prince. The barrier, the facade and the entrance door were particularly affected by projectiles, fortunately causing no casualties. Tuesday morning, Marvel Dandin, Director General of Radio Kiskeya indicated, without naming anyone, that this act of intimidation was involved in a context of great political confusion and threats of all kinds, without excluding a relation with the electoral crisis. Several personalities have come pay a solidarity visit to the radio station, including, Jude Célestin and former Senate President Simon Desras Dieuseul. Prime Minister Evans Paul canceled at the last minute his visit to the station. For its part, the Association of Independent Media of Haiti (AMIH) condemns this attack and warns against any attempt of gagging and intimidation aimed at preventing the media and journalists to do their work independently. In a statement, Jean Mario Dupuy, the Minister of Communication, deplores and condemns this act of intimidation and informs in a letter addressed to the General Director of the station, and instructions were passed to find the culprits so that they are prosecuted and punished. Letter from Minister of Communication : "Mr. Marvel Dandin Director General of Radio Kiskeya In its offices; Mr. Director General, The Ministry of Communications has learned with dismay the incident that occurred on the night of Monday, November 30 to Tuesday 1st December 2015 in the premises of Radio Kiskeya.
