Haiti - Elections : Corruption, accusation, denial and warning...
Following accusations of candidate for deputy of Ferrier, Gérald Jean, who said he paid a bribe of several thousand US dollars to the electoral adviser Yolette Mengual, to obtain a favorable decision from the National Office of Electoral Litigation (BCEN), the Adviser accused reacted strongly.

Denial of the Adviser Mengual :
"Subsequent to allegations both outrageous and slanderous made against my person, I, Yolette Mengual, Electoral Adviser said and maintain with great vehemence that :

At no time have I received nor accepted money from anyone in the electoral process;
At no time have I encountered nor personally or individually, Gérald Jean (which I only crossed by chance at CTV and BCEN).

I agreed to integrate the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in the framework of strengthening of democracy and elections are a necessary step towards that goal. I will never accept that my honor and my integrity be dragged in the mud. So I decided to contact a law firm for legal proceedings to be taken urgently so that the slanderer be tried and punished according to law.

That justice, iafter an impartial and open investigation can shine the truth in the eyes of the whole Nation on these allegations as fanciful than defamatory.

Yolette Mengual, Electoral Adviser"

Warning Notice :
"
The Provisional Electoral Council took note of the various statements and accusations about the conduct of hearings of the Office of National Electoral (BCEN). It hastens to inform the public in general and candidates concerned in particular that such acts are condemnable and reprehensible, because harmful to the serenity required for the work of electoral judges.

The CEP wishes to stress, to the attention of each other, that it is inconceivable that disputed cases be debated outside the coterie of judges, let alone in the street and in the media. The Council, while being in solidarity with its members, warns that in the future, sanctions under the Electoral Decree will be taken against any offender.

This note of warning does not exclude, in any case, prosecution front the competent courts for defamation and damage to parties."
