Elections in Haiti : Declaration of the US Government
Declaration from the US Government following the creation of the Independent Electoral Evaluation Commission

The U.S. Government takes note of the creation of the Independent Electoral Evaluation Commission and reiterates our support for a transparent and credible electoral process. In view of Haiti's constitutional requirement that a new president be inaugurated on February 7, the USG calls on all actors to work together towards the goal of holding peaceful, credible elections in a timely manner.

Contradiction in G8...
"The league alternative for progress and the emancipation of Haiti" (LAPEH) party of Jude Célestin, candidate in the second round of presidential welcomed the establishment of the Independent Electoral Commission of Evaluation. According LAPEH the Commission is representative of key sectors of Haitian society. The League considers that it is a step in the right direction, but remained cautious pending the recommendation of the report.

A position not shared by the G8, which disagreed with the installation of this Commission, considering that this structure does not inspire confidence for not having been formed in its recommendations stressing that the G-8 does not expect any concrete results of this Commission.

In a statement dated Tuesday, December 22, signed by Me Madistin it is written that the G8 "Rejects once again the formation of the Presidential Commission of electoral evaluation and continues to demand an independent investigation." The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti hope
In a statement, Christopher Handal, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH), takes note of the postponement related to the elections scheduled on December 27, due to the formation of the Electoral Evaluation Commission.

"The Chamber hopes that the appointment and installation of members of the Commission will allow an objective and fair evaluation of the electoral process and provide recommendations promoting a resolution of the crisis resulting from electoral contests. It remains convinced that the political, economic and social stability of our so dear depends on the renewal of political staff within the deadlines set by the constitution through the ballot box.

The CCIH wishes that the beginning of the new year marks our collective will to make of Haiti and its development our top priority and used the opportunity to wish all its members and the population joyous feasts and serene and a prosperous new year healthy and peaceful"
