In a note, Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, presents her most sincere good wishes to the Haitians for the new year 2016.

She also wishes the entire Haitian people that the New Year be a year of peace and prosperity and salutes the courage and dignity of the Haitian people face the many challenges of the past year, including the electoral process so crucial for the consolidation of democracy, stability and sustainable development of Haiti.

January 1, 2016 marks the 212th year of independence of the Republic of Haiti. A time to remember the spirit of unity and dedication by which the founding fathers and mothers of the Republic, built this nation and to project a future in which the gains achieved are preserved for the entire population, especially for the Haitian youth.

Stressing that "Youth is the future. Also to build a Haiti made of opportunities and equal opportunities for everyone, especially for the Haitian youth, the nation needs elected representatives. The Special Representative hopes that 2016 is also a year of implementation of commitments of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals [ODD] in Haiti and the commitments made to address climate change.
