Haiti - FLASH : The CEP wants a 2nd round on January 24
Yesterday Tuesday, the head of state met with members of the Provisional Electoral Council at the National Palace, following the letter of the electoral institution in which it is written that it would be very difficult if not impossible to carry out the second round of presidential elections, the partial legislative and local elections on January 17, 2016. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16239-haiti-flash-very-difficult-if-not-impossible-to-achieve-the-2nd-round.html

Following this working meeting of Tuesday, January 5, 2016, the Provisional Electoral Council has confirmed in a letter signed by its President, Pierre-Louis Opont "that it is able to guarantee the organization of the second round of presidential, that of the partial legislative and local elections Sunday, January 24, 2016, insofar as the new date set the election day will allow the electoral institution to deal with the constraints of activities prior to the holding of elections.

In doing so, the Provisional Electoral Council agrees to respect both constitutional dates ie 11 January 2016 for the return of Parliament and February 7 for the inauguration of the elected President.

While reiterating its willingness to continue to organize fair elections, transparent, credible and inclusive, the Provisional Electoral Council, asks you, Your Excellency to please accept the assurances of its highest consideration."

The question is whether now the President of the Republic will respond favorably and to convene the people in elections, or not, to this new date, and if deadlines will be respected by the CEP.
