Haiti - FLASH : 92 deputies were sworn in

Sunday, the Haitian Parliament has realized the registration process and the validation, after checking the records of the 92 new deputies, coming from elections of 9 August and 25 October 2015, which will be part of the Lower House of the 50th Legislature, which under the Constitution, has to take office at the Constitutional dated Monday, January 11. The audited items were among others: the civil status of elected, the conditions of their elections, the certificates granted by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the publication of their names in the official newspaper Le Moniteur...

The ceremony, which began at 10:00 am local time in the Parliament building and which had not been publicly announced, was carried out with the utmost discretion for fear of opposition demonstrations.

According to the internal regulations of the Chamber of Deputies, it is the oldest member, Jean Galvy Charles Deputy of the constituency Les Anglais/Chardonnières (PHTK) who chaired the session attended by the two younger Franck Lauture (Vallée de Jacmel) (OPL), 1st Secretary ; Kétel Jean Philippe (Jacmel) (OPL), 2nd Secretary. Commissions constituted validated successively in groups of 10 the powers of each of the new Deputies. After taking the oath each deputy received the Parliamentary scarf.

Jean Galvy Charles, in a circumstance speech, justified the validation session by the need to respect the constitutional deadline for Parliament resumed the second Monday of January. Considering that many challenges stand face the 50th Legislature, he appealed to his colleagues to come to meetings in order to work and to fill, by of results, the expectations of the population. "Today marks a historic turning point that opens the door to the 50th Legislature. The Legislature has already begun. I invite you to get to work."

These deputies, elected for 4 years, should be joined by 27 others who will come from elections on 24 January.

For their part, the 14 new Senators would be sworn this Monday, January 11, 2016. These new senators will in turn later joined by 6 other senators who come out elected in by-elections January 24, 2016.

For now, it is not yet known whether the National Assembly session may be held as prescribed in the 1987 Constitution amended.
