Haiti - Elections : Security plan ready for Sunday

Monday, Godson Orélus, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), Jaime Vigil, the Acting Police Commissioner of the Minustah (UNPOL) and Lieutenant General Ajax Porto Pinheiro, Commander of the military force of the Minustah, have ratified the security plan for the elections of January 24, 2016.

After the signing, Mr. Godson reassured the population that "the Haitian National Police, supported by the Minsutah is ready to ensure the security of the second round of presidential elections, legislative and senatorial on 24 January."

According to the Inspector General of the PNH, Jean Saint Fleur, one of the architects of this plan, the new document does not present any major changes "but there are peculiarities at the level of the security of Departmental Electoral Offices (BED) and Communal (BEC). The HNP will be present with the same commitment of its various responsibles." The plan includes the deployment of 7,357 PNH officers and 2,464 peacekeepers from the Minsutah.

For teh acting Commissioner Jaime Vigil, the priority of UNPOL is to ensure that the delivery of sensitive equipment to BED and BEC is conducted in time in support to the CEP, stating as such, all security and logistical aspects are ready.
