Haiti - France : Increased cooperation in the field of health

Two missions of Guadeloupe and practitioners of University hospital centers (CHU) of Fort-de-France, Pointe-à-Pitre and Saint-Martin, led by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) recently followed each other to Port-au-Prince.

Their objective was to identify new dynamics within the framework of European financial system "Interreg V Caribbean", to strengthen cooperation between France and Haiti via health institutions of French Communities of America and improve prevention of health risks at regional level.

The first of these missions focused on improving medical specialties. Indeed, if student exchanges exist between Haiti and the University Hospital of Martinique, Haiti in dire need of specialists: emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, gynecologists, neurologists etc... but also nurses and midwives. To help reduce this gap, a new cooperation plan should help to support the training of new specialists and practitioners and facilitate exchanges with Haiti.

The second mission focused on improving the training of staff, equipment and laboratories and the data collection, to develop research programs on infectious vector-borne diseases and resistance to treatment, aimed at strengthening epidemiological monitoring in Haiti.

These programs will be developed in connection with the program "SP Haïti Lab" initiated by Fondation Mérieux, will have an "e-laboratory" through which French and Haitian researchers will be able to pool their knowledge.
