Haiti - Politic : Martelly is committed to take a decision shortly 05/02/2016 04:39:57
The General Secretariat of the Presidency informs the general public that the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, in the quest for a viable solution to provide the institutional impasse to arise from the delay in the organization of the presidential election, and subsequently to the lack of a president elected according to the constitution, has undertaken consultations with vital sectors of national life. To this end, discussions have been underway for several weeks with the presidents of the two branches of Parliament and groups "representative" of parliamentarians in order to reach an agreement to find a solution to the crisis. Several crisis proposals were submitted and discussed. They are still under consideration. They relate mainly to : 1. Clean slate involving a long transition going up to the revision of the Constitution. 2. Maintaining the government in fucntion in order to assume the executive and complete the CEP to continue the electoral process; 3. The transmission of power to the President of the National Assembly. 4. The recourse to tradition by entrusting the provisional presidency to the President of the Court of Cassation. It should be noted that all these formulas will have to go through the establishment of a consensus government involving politicians and sectors of civil society. The President of the Republic aware of his role as Head of State and guarantor of the proper functioning of institutions and continuity of the State, is committed to shortly take the wiser decision and the most suitable to guarantee to the Haitian people and society the solution leading to the continuation of the electoral process, therefore to the renewal of political staff and the election of a President according to the Constitution.
