Haiti - Reconstruction : New French Institute in Port-au-Prince

The premises of the French Institute of Haiti (IFH), severely damaged, at the time of the seism, were razed to give place to a new construction respecting the paraseismic construction standards. These new buildings also accommodate a new team, with as director, Corinne Micaelli, who recalled the missions pursued by the IFH since 1945, involving the dissemination of French culture in all its forms and promoting local culture. The new programming of IHF will take place on four main areas: education, artistic programming, the debate of ideas and the audiovisual.

The new space of IFH, located on Avenue Lamartinière, now includes seven classrooms, a computer room, an educational library. It is also opened with musical creation, with a studio of recording and repetition equipped, which will be available to local musicians. It will also host in situ cultural rendez-vous of smaller sizes than before - conferences, debates, readings, exhibitions, film screenings, concerts.

The French Institute of Haiti will remain what it has always been, according to Ms. Micaelli, a reference in the cultural life of Haiti, but in another form, with a new impulse of development-oriented activities "beyond walls". The network of the Alliance françaises, present in 6 provincial towns, will also develop activities and will allow a broad resonance on most of the Haitian territory.
