Haiti - Security : Attack against a Customs patrol, two wounded 24/02/2016 10:02:48
Given the number of attackers and their superior weaponry, the 5 customs officers and two agents of the Operation Brigade and Departmental Intervention (BOID) who accompanied them, abandoned their vehicle to save their lives. During the brief clash shots were exchanged, a stray bullet slightly wounded in the leg a resident woman, while one of the two officers of BOID was seriously wounded by a machete and rushed to the Hospital of Mirebalais. According to Commissioner Ovilmar Sagesse of the Central Department, the reasons for the attack are so far unknown, but it could be a diversionary tactic that allowed the passage of trucks of smuggled goods, or intimidation, the patrol being responsible for surveillance of smuggling.
