Haiti - Diplomacy : China wants the respect of the election date

Thursday, Liu Jieyi, the Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations, called on the international community to help Haiti to organize the second round of its presidential election "We must do everything possible to facilitate the vote as scheduled [24 April 2016]" he declared front of the Security Council in New York.

"We hope that this process gives new opportunities for peace and stability in Haiti," said the Chinese diplomat adding that even if the current situation in Haiti is rather quiet "it is still complicated and fragile."

Continuing "China hopes that all parties in Haiti remain united and solve their differences through dialogue, in order to maintain stability in the country and create conditions for the holding of the second round of the presidential election and the establishment of the new government."

The Ambassador expressed the hope that the regional organizations continue to assist and support the electoral process while respecting the sovereignty of Haiti "We must help Haiti to accelerate economic development and improve its humanitarian situation," stressing that the development was the key to solving the problems of Haiti.

"The international community must honor its commitments on time with Haiti and provide funding for humanitarian aid so that the Haitian government can be able to conduct its development projects earliest," said the Chinese Ambassador.
