Haiti - FLASH : CEP members appointed by presidential decree

Tuesday at the National Palace the President a.i. Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles, chaired the first Council of Ministers of the new government in which the decree appointing the members of the new Provisional Electoral Council was adopted and published in the official newspaper of the Republic.

List of members of CEP :

1) Carlos Hercule : Episcopal Conference of Haiti ;

2) Frinel Joseph : Reformed worship ;

3) Kenson Polynice : Peasant / Voodoo sector ;

4) Marie-Herolle Michel : Patronal sector ;

5) Josette Jean Dorcély : Union sector ;

6) Léopold Berlanger : Press sector ;

7) Jean Lucien Bernard : University sector ;

8) Marie Frantz Joachim : Woman sector ;

9) Jean Simon Saint-Hubert : Human Rights sector.

In accordance with the statement of General Policy of the Prime Minister, the Electoral Council will have as main tasks of :

"[...] 1- Restart the electoral process after evaluation of steps already taken;

2- Implement technical recommendations of theIndependent Commission of Electoral Evaluation ;

3- Finalize and announce the election results.

The Government will ensure that everything is implemented, including the research, if necessary, of additional financial resources in order to create the necessary and sufficient conditions for the immediate resumption of the electoral process. It will, undoubtedly allowed the government of the Republic to urge the Provisional Electoral Council, as soon installed, to submit it a reasonable timetable to meet the expectations of all stakeholders involved in the electoral process [...]"

Last minute : Prime Minister Enex jean-Charles, just announced that the swearing and the installation of the new Provisional Electoral Council will be held this Wednesday, March 30th. The swearing should be before the Court of Cassation.
