Haiti - Elections : Cholera, surprise candidate in next election
At 8 days of the election deadline, the Joint Observer Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Haiti, said in a statement Friday that preparations for elections "are on track but challenges remain"

Among them, the agency says the cholera epidemic, which has done so far over 1,100 dead, and whose impact on voter turnout is difficult to measure. In addition, movements of urban violence, anti-cholera and anti-MINUSTAH, in which four people died since Monday aggravate the security environment.

The mission does not mention the tension in the refugee camps, where more than 1.5 million people live in deplorable conditions (exacerbated in some areas by recent flooding of Hurricane Tomas), a tension that leaves a risk of uprising, in a population easily manipulated by extremist forces, or a high abstention under the influence of political forces.

Beyond a situation not conducive to holding elections, the Observer Mission OAS/CARICOM, invited citizens to exercise their rights and do their duty as citizens, by voting massively in 28 election November.
