Haiti - Economy : Inflation reached a new peak
In April 2016 the General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 263.1 against 260.9 in March 2016, showing a monthly increase of 0.8% and a yoy increase of 15.2%, against respectively 0.9% and 14 8% in March.

The functions that have contributed most to this monthly increase of + 0.8% are mainly: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 0.9%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 0.8%), "Housing Rent, Energy and Water" (+ 1.4%), "Planning and Housing Maintenance"(+ 0.8%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+ 1.0%).

The progress of the "Food, drinks and tobacco" function that represents over 50% of the household budget comes among others of price of ground corn (+ 1.1%), of cornflakes (+ 1.5%), bread (+1.4 %) of goat meat (+ 1.1%), poultry (+ 1.7%), bananas (+ 2.2%), the pumpkin (+ 1.7%), the marker (+ 2.2%), the eggplant (+ 2.3%), cabbage (+ 1.9%), onion (+ 1.1%), carrot (+ 2.0%), tomato (+ 1.2%), tomato paste (+ 1.7%), yams (+ 1.8%), the malanga (+ 1.7%), cassava (+ 2.1%), the potato (+ 1.2%) and potatoes (+ 2.9%), orange (+ 2.2%), the chadèque (+ 1.5%), lemon (+ 2.6%), raw sugar (+ 1.8%) and cocoa powder (+ 5.3%).

The increase in the "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" function is mainly due to the increase in products such as suit, jacket universal (+ 0.8%), the trousers for men (+ 0.6%), dress (+0.8 %) and sandals (+ 1.8%).

The increase in the index "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" is essentially due to changes in housing rent (+ 2.5%) and water supply (+ 0.8%).

Inflationary pressures of the "Planning and Housing Maintenance" function is consecutive to the price of : living room furniture (+ 0.9%), dining room (+ 1.5%), the bed (+ 1.2%), the mattress (+ 1.4%), refrigerator (+ 1.0%), the wages of domestic workers (+ 1.7%) and miscellaneous services (+ 1.0%).

Finally, the increase observed at the "Other Goods and Services" is mainly due to the price of the toilet powder (+ 6.6%), the body cream (+ 2.2%) and toilet paper (+ 4.0%).
