Haiti - Economy : Shootings, strong reactions of Chambers of Commerce
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry West (CCI West) denounces the attacks bullet during the night of June 23 to 24, 2016 on companies, creating damage to their properties and goods https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17835-haiti-flash-several-companies-including-the-marriott-riddled-with-bullets.html . It also denounces the car thefts and armed assaults against citizens going about their activities and take this opportunity to extend its sympathy to all the victims.

"These odious acts against the civilian population and investments that create thousands of jobs came just weeks after similar acts against of gas pumps and even state institutions.

No society can evolve in such a context of instability and alert [...] only a calm social climate is likely to lead to stability [...] and encourage the return of direct investment in order to create jobs, reduce social inequality and recover the fullness of national independence.

The CCI West rges public actors to take the necessary measures to identify and punish with the full force of the law, perpetrators of these acts,"
said in a note Christopher M. Handal, the president of the CCI West.

"These coordinated attacks are clearly intended to discourage Haitians and foreign investors, while laying the general population in a climate of fear and despair [...] If it is obvious that the political situation generates rivalries and polarizes our society these acts [...] only reduce in tatters a private sector already in trouble, trying of its best to play its role in economic and social development.

Also, the AmCham request in a imperative and urgent manner that the authorities take all necessary steps to identify the perpetrators of these senseless acts and bring them to justice. It also asks the PNH to take immediate concrete measures to prevent such acts from recurring.

The AmCham presents its sympathies to all those who have affected by these acts of vandalism and encourage them not to be intimidated and to continue to work to strengthen the national economy."
