Haiti - Politic : Canada, USA and Mexico deeply concerned

Wednesday at the 2016 North American Leaders’ Summit held at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US Presidents Barack Obama and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, expressed in a joint statement their deep concern over the political crisis in Haiti.

"[...] [Canada, the United States and Mexico] are deeply preoccupied by the decision to rerun presidential elections in Haiti, and will work closely on the file to ensure that this election and others take place peacefully so that all Haitians can have their voices heard, their votes respected, and can be governed by democratically-elected leaders.

[...] We have been following closely the political crisis in Haiti and regret the absence of a democratically elected President since February 7, 2016. Canada, Mexico and the United States call on Haiti to hold peaceful, transparent, and credible elections without further delays, so as to return Haiti to constitutional order.

Recognizing that Haitians are facing enormous economic and humanitarian challenges and that the Haitian people need to be able to rely on leaders who are elected and accountable, we underscore that the Haitian people deserve to have their voices heard through a democratically-elected President [...]"
