On the night of 30 June, a violent clash between a civil brigade and armed bandits in Calumette (communal section of Savanette, Centre) resulted in 1 dead and 1 gunshot wound in brigadiers and 1 wounded with knives (machetes) among bandits.

Without vigilance and actions of the citizen brigade, set up to fight against the frequent acts of theft and rape in the commune https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-16922-icihaiti-insecurity-the-population-of-savanette-living-in-fear.html , face to the helplessness of 5 police officers assigned to protect a town of over 40,000 inhabitants, the situation would be worse, according to the testimonies of the population "We have only this means to defend ourselves because the 5 police officers we have, not can secure the town [...]"

The Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (GARR) is outraged that a group of citizens decided to ensure the security of the population because of the failure of police officers to Savanette. The GAAR calls on authorities to strengthen without delay, the number of police forces to address the situation and protect the lives and property of the the population of this Commune.
