Since Monday, the teachers involved in the correction of the baccalaureate exams assigned to the Lycée Toussaint Louverture, headquarters of the process, have completely ceased their correction work, challenging the deadline for the publication of results expected on 10 August.

They are demanding better working conditions, challenging the decision of the Ministry of Education that instead of increasing their salaries as requested reduced them to 19,000 gourdes (16,000 Gdes for 18 days of corrective labor, and 3,000 for food costs) while they received before, 21,000 gourdes already considered as an insufficient amount (18,000 Gdes for 18 days of corrective labor, and 3,000 for food costs).

The Ministry justifies its decision due to a lack of available funds to meet the claims of teachers-correctors, which caused this work stoppage. The Ministry invites to the resumption of corrections in order to meet the timetable.

In the contrary case, teachers report that the Ministry would have suggested that it will take steps for the continuation of the correction process, with or without the teachers which is far from calming the minds...
