Haiti - Politic : Launch of Forum Initiation of new mayors

Wednesday, François Anick Joseph, Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), under the patronage of the Presidency, launched at Ciné théâtre Triomphe (Champ de mars), the "Forum Initiation of new municipal elected".

These two-days assize, that aims to discuss the roles and responsibilities of Mayors and convey to the newly elected, tools to enable them to meet the demands and challenges of their new function were officially opened by the President de facto Jocelerme Privert accompanied among others by Camille Edouard Jr., Minister of Justice, of members of the cabinet of the President, of Secretary of State for Local Authorities Paul Harry Voltaire, of Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Jude Saint-Natus in the presence of over 400 members of new municipal councils and departmental delegates, Parliamentarians, senior executives of the public Administration and representatives of institutions working with municipalities.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Jude Pierre Edouard main Mayor of Carrefour, praised the efforts of the Head of State and sought the intervention of the central government to help new mayors to meet basic needs of their respective populations.

In his speech Minister Joseph, said that this event is of great importance for the future of local governments and stressed that "The MICT has obtained the support of the President and Head of Government to lay the foundation for the development of local authorities."

Jocelerme Privert stressed that this forum is a step in the right direction for the autonomy of Commons and took the opportunity to urge the Chamber of Deputies to ratify the draft law on local authorities, which has already been passed in the first reading to the Senate in 2012.Let's recall that this law was already part of the priority legislation to ratify https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8941-haiti-politic-priority-bills-to-the-legislative-agenda.html
