Haiti - Security : Rescue at Sea, shipwreck avoided
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to an urgent distress call from a Haitian motor vessel taking on water in the Windward Passage, approximately 30 Nautical Miles South of Great Inagua, Bahamas. The vessel, Haitian registered, with 6 persons onboard (4 Haitians and 2 Bahamian Citizens) carrying cargo between the Bahamas and Haiti when it started taking on water.

A nearby United States Coast Guard Cutter responded to their distress call and arrived on-scene to provide assistance. Working throughout the night, the U.S. Coast Guard rescue team provided de-watering pumps and worked with the crew to stabilize the vessel and stop the flooding.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter escorted the vessel to a safe anchorage near Ile de la Tortue, where it was received by Haitian authorities. All persons safely arrived on land.
