The de facto President of the Republic, Jocelerme Privert, convened the people in elections this Tuesday, July 19 as part of the meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the National Palace. The Head of State has, in fact, informed that the rder will be published shortly in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur".

Before being adopted and signed, the opportunity of the said decree has been widely debated in the Council of Ministers chaired by Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles.

In his intervention, President Privert recalled the importance of the date of October 9, 2016, adopted by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) for the resumption of the presidential election of October 2015, crucial appointment for the country's political future. "Under no circumstances, we can miss this deadline ! I urge you all to participate in the process leading to compliance with that date," he asserted, indicating having taken the decision to convene the people in elections while remaining available to the National Assembly expected to take, if appropriate, the necessary arrangements in connection with the application of Article 7 of the Agreement of February 5, 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16533-haiti-politic-the-details-of-the-agreement-from-a-to-z.html

"These elections constitute a major and unavoidable challenge for the political and democratic future of our country. This is to fill the empty observed and recognized at the organ of the three powers of the State and work to strengthen republican institutions as the foundation of our democracy in action," he continued.

While wishing good luck to all the candidates, Jocelerme Privert stressed the obligation of perfect neutrality of the Executive and of all State bodies in the said process; and it is necessary that "these elections are free, fair and democratic."

Also of important issues related to the economy, the financing of elections, were also on the agenda at this meeting at the highest level of the State.
