Haiti - Social : «Protection of human rights in prisons»

Yesterday Wednesday ended a 3-day training workshop on the theme "Protection of human rights in prisons", this activity that was carried out in partnership with the Correctional Unit of the Minustah had gathered 40 agents of the Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) and other participants.

The objective of this training was to build the capacity of participants in their understanding and use of protective mechanisms of human rights in prisons.

Alongside the already harsh conditions of detention linked to the smallness space and the lack of service to prisoners, it is important to emphasize that the judicial treatment of cases awaiting trial arrives only to produce 22% of convicts over a population of 11,000 detainees.

To overcome this situation, the OPC and the Minustah engaged in support activities for prisoners requiring that executives of local presences of the OPC are increasingly better equipped and trained.
