Friday at the Royal Oasis hotel, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) hosted the opening ceremony of the Trade Information Portal of Haiti (PICH) in the presence of de facto President Jocelerme Privert, of distinguished guests including Raju Singh, the Chief Economist for Haiti at the World Bank, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), business leaders, government officials and private sector personalities and of the civil society.

This Trade Information Portal of Haiti , funded entirely by the World Bank, aims to make available to the national and international economic agents, through an IT platform, all data available in Haiti for import operations and export (laws, regulations, procedures, tariffs etc...)

This is a critical tool for the commercial development of Haiti, in the sense that it will contribute to reducing costs and time of transactions, to the acceleration of customs procedures and development of trade flow of goods.

In the medium and long term, the PICH will promote the flow of trade from and to Haiti and will contribute to the development of import/export sector enterprises, to the attraction of foreign and domestic direct investment, job creation and economic growth.

With the PICH, Privert believes that the country is about to make a qualitative leap in the trade stating "This tool opens the way towards good governance. I urge you to make every effort so that it is always and constantly supplied with informations."

In his speech, Raju Singh welcomed the efforts of the MCI and the customs administration for the implementation of this project to promote trade in Haiti.
