Haiti - Politic : Strengthening of the border and passport decentralized

François Anick Joseph, Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, speaking on a radio station in the capital about the weakness of the control infrastructure at the land border of Haiti between the two countries and porosity of the latter widely exploited by smugglers, announced for soon various measures, including: installation at the border of equipment for monitoring (without specifying the nature), the increase in immigration inspectors and over the long term, the proposal of a new integrated joint force with the Inspectors of Customs, Immigration and the PNH for full control of the border line. Note that on this last point, this cooperation already exists on an informal level for a long time and the Minister speaks in fact of the formalization of this cooperation.

Furthermore, concerning the passports, he announced on the one hand the development of the services of the Directorate of Immigration in the new premises of the Ministry on the street of Casernes and secondly the decentralization of passport applications that will enable applicants to have easier access. Recall that the proposed decentralization of passport date of 2011 under the Martelly regime https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3622-haiti-technology-new-passport-and-border-controls.html and has not been possible due to the blocking of the opposition to ratify certain laws necessary for this implementation, among others, those on the recognition of signature and electronic transactions.
