Haiti - Security : Launch of simulation exercises SIMEX 2016
Monday to the National Emergency Operation Centre (COUN) Jude Saint-Natus, Director General of the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) officially launched, the Simulation exercise hurricane-Floods, SIMEX 2016.

The exercise that involves all stakeholders of the National System of Risk Management (SNGRD) will be implemented in three departments: the South, Grand Anse and West on 9 and 10 August 2016. A particular emphasis will set in the commune of Camp Perrin, in the South, where a hundred inhabitants of the neighborhood "Laporte" particularly vulnerable to floods will be evacuated to temporary shelters by the Municipal Civil Protection Committee and the volunteers brigadiers of this commune.

This SIMEX will also mobilizes more than 400 participants, including players in the management of emergency response and people who have to train to evacuate to emergency shelters.

The Haitian authorities and their partners will also test as part of this exercise, the procedures of the Handbook of COUN, as well as coordination mechanisms between the central, departmental and municipal levels of civil protection. This national exercise must also strengthen the operational capacity of SNGRD and improve the mechanisms and established protocols and procedures.

The exercise of this Tuesday will simulate the approach and the impact of a tropical storm that would become a Category 2 hurricane before reaching over Haiti. This hurricane (fictitious) would affect all departments of the country, but particularly the departments of Grande Anse and the South.
