Haiti - Agriculture : $16M for small-scale irrigation and access to markets
Friday as part of the implementation of Development Project of Small Irrigation and market access in the Nippes and Goâvienne region (PPI-III), Guito Laurore, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) and Yvonne Helle Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a Convention in which UNDP will provide assistance terms of administrative and financial management and procurement, which includes :

  • The establishment of adequate tools for effective support to project management;
  • The formation of the team dedicated to PPI-III in fiduciary management and procurement ;
  • The consolidation of the formation of the Coordination Unit of the PPI-III to the achievement of sustainable conditions for administrative and financial management and procurement.

The PPI-III, is part of a holistic approach of the Ministry, which consists of consider four areas of irrigation schemes namely:
(i) Rehabilitation / construction of physical infrastructure;
(ii) Rehabilitation / construction of social infrastructure;
(iii)Agricultural valuation;
(iv)Watershed development.

This project takes over from PICV-II and PPI-II by capitalizing on the achievements and lessons learned from their implementation. The estimated overall cost of the program amounts to 16,55 million US dollars. The activities of PPI-III will be mainly implemented by different operators recruited (business, education, individual consultants offices etc.) and in some cases, central and decentralized structures of the Ministry of Agriculture.
